According to SmilePro's product page: three 3 ml whitening gel pens, a dual LED mouth tray (wireless and rechargeable, with a built-in 10-minute timer), a USB charging case, a shade guide and step-by-step instructions. One kit gives 30 treatments.

How it works

You paint the gel onto your teeth with a pen, put the tray in and switch on the light. It turns itself off after 10 minutes. SmilePro says the blue light helps break down stains and the red light is for comfort, and that most users notice a difference after the first session, with full results typically within a week.

The formula differs by market. The kit sold in Australia (and to US shoppers from the same store) uses 6% hydrogen peroxide, the highest strength Australia allows for home use. The UK and EU kit uses PAP (phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid), because UK and EU law limits products sold to the public to 0.1% hydrogen peroxide. See stained teeth for the rules in each country.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • 30 treatments of 10 minutes, with a light that switches itself off
  • 6% hydrogen peroxide gel (Australia and US) or PAP (UK and EU), in three pens
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Rated 4.7/5 on SmilePro's store, and recognised by four publishers
  • SmilePro says up to 8 shades whiter in 7 sessions

Limitations

  • Whitening does not change crowns, veneers or fillings
  • The evidence that LED lights add much is mixed
  • Its customer rating comes from SmilePro's own store

Best for: most people who want a short daily LED routine with a money-back guarantee. Skip it if: you have crowns or veneers on your front teeth, or already have sensitive teeth and have not checked with a dentist.

Frequently asked questions

Is SmilePro safe for enamel?

SmilePro describes its gel as enamel-safe and formulated to prevent sensitivity. Separately, the NHS lists sensitivity and sore gums as common side effects of whitening, and a 2018 Cochrane review found them usually mild and temporary. If you have sensitive teeth, gum disease or untreated dental problems, healthdirect advises against whitening until a dentist has checked. See is whitening safe?

Does the LED light make a difference?

The evidence is mixed. CHOICE quotes a dental professor who says small blue LED lights in home kits generally add little, and that some early whitening comes from teeth drying out. The gel does most of the work; the self-timing light makes sessions easy to time.

What if it does not work for me?

SmilePro offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on the Advanced kit. Check the terms on its store before you buy.

Who is SmilePro?

SmilePro is an Australian company that sells its kits online in Australia, the UK, Europe, the US and other markets, and through Chemist Warehouse in Australia. See our disclosure for how SmilePro relates to this site.

Our verdict

SmilePro Advanced is a convenient, well-priced home LED kit: 30 short treatments, a guarantee, strong customer ratings and recognition from four publishers. It will not whiten crowns or veneers, and the light itself adds less than the gel. If those limits suit you, it is our top pick.
